| Indian Astrology is based
upon nine planets; they are the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury,
Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and the two Shadow planets are Rahu
and Ketu. Out of these the first seven are material planets
and can be seen with naked eye, the remaining two are imaginary
points formed by the intersection of the paths of the earth
and the moon. There are other planets also in the space
namely the Uranus, Neptune and Pluto but they do not find
any place in Indian Vedic astrology. The reason is that
they were not discovered at the time of Parashar, the father
of Indian Vedic astrology or the planets are far away from
the earth to give influence upon human beings. The sun and
other planets, owing to the relative distance from the earth,
are able to give a specific influence on human destiny. |

Sun is a royal
planet and the king in astrology. Sun is the ruler of the
zodiac sign Leo. It is regarded as a malefic planet, but
it is actually an auspicious planet. Its' friendship with

entry into the various signs. For example on January 14
it enters Capricorn and this day is celebrated as Makara
Sankranti, On April 13th/14th it enters Aries and this day
is celebrated as Baisakhi. The change in seasons is also
linked to the suns entry into various signs and nakshatras.

Mercury is the prince in astrology, sexless
and neutral and is a cold and moist planet. Being a neutral
planet it changes according to its placement in a sign and
house, and that is why it is said to have a "mercurial"
nature. Because it is nearest to the Sun it is restless,
which also makes it quick-changing, fickle, and often retrograde.
Mercury sometimes precedes the Sun and sometimes follows
it. It is always within 27 degree distance from the sun
from astrological point of view. Mercury can be seen in
the morning and evening as a shining star and sometimes
even during the day because of its power of radiation. Mercury
is the smallest planet of our solar system. Mercury takes
about a month to travel a sign.
Mercury represents the speech, intellect and friends of
the individual. |
 |
| It is a very, adaptable and curious planet.
If afflicted, it gives speech problems and a poor discriminative
ability. Mercury rules education, writers, lecturers, artists,
teachers, traders, businessmen, the nervous system, lungs,
and intestines. It rules intelligence, self-confidence,
humor, wit, astrology, mathematics, printing, publishing.
and short journeys. |

Saturn can devastate you.

Rahu is the point in the
zodiac where the paths of the Sun and the Moon cross Rahu
or Dragons Head or North Node represents, foreigners, foreign
countries, foreign travel, engineering and the technical
trades, smoke, old men, grand parents, theft, gambling,
drinking, nonconformists, the underworld and the bad elements
in the society.Rahu takes approximately one and half years
to travel a sign and hence completes the round of the zodiac
in eighteen years.
It is believed that either Sun or Moon is conjunct with
Rahu or Ketu, a solar or lunar eclipse takes place. In astronomy
Rahu is considered the dragon's head and is also known as
the north node of Moon. Rahu and Ketu are not real luminaries
and are regarded as shadow planets. They do not have ability
to cast aspects, as other planets do, they do not rule any
zodiacal signs and are not characterized as male or female.
Because they are related to Moon as its north and south
nodes, they reflect the basic bipolarity of energy within
the cosmos and the individual. They are both regarded as
malefic half-planets and they bisect the natal chart of
the horoscopes of all individuals. |

Dragon’s tail or Ketu
is not really a planet, but rather a mathematically calculated
point in the heavens, Because of its lack of a "body".
it represents uncertain, unexpected and unpredictable phenomena.
It is intelligent and relates to mathematics and other abstract
knowledge. .Ketu is a headless half-planet, shadowy as Rahu
and malefic, though not as malefic as Rahu. It is therefore
considered a moksha-karak (cause of liberation from the
cycle of birth and death). It bestows spiritual tendencies,
ascetism and nonattachment to worldly desires and ambitions.
It represents grand parents, technical trades, spiritual
inclinations, superstitions and electronics. Ketu is always
in the opposite sign to Rahu, i.e., exactly 180 degrees
away. Ketu also takes approximately one and half years to
travel a sign and hence completes the round of the zodiac
in eighteen years.
Ketu in Each of these 9 planets produce different results,
and at times totally opposite results, while placed in the
12 different rasis. Again each has some good results and
some bad results in each sign. The motion of Rahu and Ketu
is always opposite to that of the other planets. |

Pluto is the ruling planet of Scorpio. Called "the

of a person that destroys in order to renew. A commonly
used keyword for Pluto is "transformation". Many
more traditional astrologers do not use Pluto as a ruling
planet, but do use the planet for interpretation and predictive

Pluto is also associated with extreme power and corruption;
It is also associated with nuclear armament, which had its
